Melvin Ray Vietzke

Melvin Ray Vietzke passed away on March 12, 2026, at the age of 84. He was born in Bell Gardens CA. on December 25, 1941, and resided until he enlisted into the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 in 1958. Mel served until the year 1962.

He met his beloved wife Irene, while escorting a tour of his ship (The U.S.S. Yorktown) while in port at Long Beach CA. They were inseparable when he asked her to marry him in the fall of 1961. Mel and Irene were married in spring of 1962 and were together 64 wonderful years.

After leaving the Navy, Mel drove trucks for most of his working career and retired at the age of 73. Mel was also a devoted member of devout Teamster. Mel loved spending time with family and friends, he also had a passion for riding his motorcycle whenever he could. Along with his adventurous side Mel had a great sense of humor and was full of stories he loved to tell anyone who would want to listen.

Mel was not only a wonderful husband but a great father and grandfather. Mel is survived by his beloved wife, Irene and their five children, James, Kellie, Dustin, Robin, and Stacey. Mel is also survived by his four grandchildren. DJ, Kaila, Aiden and Greyson.

Mel loved everyone around him and was adored by everyone who had met him. He will be forever loved and missed by all!
