It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael “Mike” H. McClenahen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who left us on February 6, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on June 20, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan, Mike’s journey began as the cherished son of Shirley and Malcolm McClenahen. Raised in the serene community of Waterford, Michigan, he became known for his warm spirit and kind hearted nature.
Mike’s educational journey culminated with his graduation from Waterford Kettering High School in 1974. While his youth was filled with dreams and ambitions, Mike's sense of duty compelled him to join the United States Navy. On December 31, 1974, he enlisted and served as a Boiler Technician, a role that showcased his dedication and resilience. He traversed the seas aboard several ships, proudly defending our nation until his honorable discharge on December 10, 1979.
In an incredible turn of fate, during his Navy career in 1977, Mike met the love of his life, Bernice. Their union blossomed into an enduring partnership that spanned nearly half a century. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams.
Mike was not just a devoted husband; he was a father who embraced the joys and responsibilities of family life with open arms. His legacy will be carried on by his children and grandchildren, who will remember him for his unwavering love and support, and for the invaluable lessons he imparted throughout their lives.
Mike dedicated most of his working life as an engineer inspector for a reputable insurance company, where he became a valued member of the team, respected for his expertise and dedication.
Mike was a man of many passions, channeling his creativity into rebuilding Harley motorcycles—a pursuit that brought him immense joy and fulfillment. Each bike he restored was not just a project, but a testament to his craftsmanship and love for the open road.
During the winter months, when the world outside turned cold, Mike brought warmth into his home by immersing himself in intricate puzzles. For him, each piece was a challenge but also a reminder of life's simple pleasures.
Above all else, Mike will be remembered for his unwavering support and generous spirit. Family and friends often looked to him for assistance with their projects, knowing they could count on him without hesitation. He found pure joy in lending a hand, no matter the task, embodying the spirit of collaboration and love that tied his family together.
Mike was profoundly devoted to his wife, Bernice, with whom he shared 48 beautiful years of marriage. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Christopher, born in 1978, Nicholas, born in 1980, and Stephanie, born in 1985; and his two sisters, Lori Reppuhn and Amy Wellman. His legacy continues to thrive in his beloved grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
