I met Mike about 20+ years ago when he was appraising for Joe Costa.  Mike was a really nice guy.  He would pop into our office occasionally when he was appraising on the West side.  Always enjoyed visiting with him at various classes.  Sorry to hear Mike is gone, he was an exceptional man and I will miss him.

My Dad was a true individual who could light up a room with his kindness and passion for life. Upon meeting Mike, he would make you feel like you were a long time friend. 
I will miss his singing. He would break into song at the most random times, and he knew a variety of genre of music. I loved driving around with him, and we would sign your hearts out. 
I will miss my dad's advice. When I came to him with a problem, he would ask me questions that would lead me to the answers. A favorite saying of his was, "No guts, no glory." Something that is always in the back of my mind.
I will miss his encouragement and strength.His deep devotion to his faith, my mother and our family. Sunday dinners with his amazing meals, the flowers he gave us for Easter and Mother's Day, family vacations.
I will miss being able to make my dad laugh. I always enjoyed getting a big belly laugh out of my dad. The way he would close his eyes and throw his head back. It was truly music to my hears and always warmed my heart. 
Most of all, I will miss my dad's constant love. Everyday, my dad made me feel loved! 
You were an amazing man, husband, father, grandfather, friend. Thank you Dad for everything!

I was very saddened to learn that Mike has passed away.  Whenever he came into a room he brought light and kindness with him.  I'm sure God's perpetual light is shining upon him.

My Dad
My dad was a true Renaissance Man. 
My dad was a musician at heart.  He would spontaneously sing (or scuttle, as we called it) and dance (the McKenzie Shuffle).   If there was a piano around, he would play his entire repertoire, both songs.  We were also greeted each birthday morning with a phone call from him singing Happy Birthday.  
My dad was a cheerleader at heart.  He would attend any event in which his children or grandchildren were participating.  Dad attended sporting events, theatre productions, music performances, and dance recitals.  Every event was followed with big hugs and comments of how fantastic we were.
My dad was a coach at heart.  Dad would coach his sons in baseball.  He would also watch ANY sporting event (dad and I still don't understand water polo).  Dad would sit there beaming with pride while watching his children and grandchildren.  
My dad was an amazing chef.  He would make our favorite meal for our birthday, regardless of how complication or time consuming the meal could be.  There was always room at the table for more people to join us.  No one was ever sent away hungry.
My dad was a lover of words.  He loved to read.  We had many great discussions.  Dad had a great sense of humor with an infectious laugh.  We could also ask him for advice.  He would listen intently and offer his perspective and wisdom.  
My dad is a special person.  I will miss him deeply.

I am so thankful for my family, immediate and extended. Today we celebrated Uncle Mike; who after my mom passed, continued to bring the cousins together for the back-yard-barbeque tradition and to schedule super cool family reunions in Idaho. He is an amazing husband, father, uncle and friend and is cherished by all.  Uncle Mike and Aunt Sue are a wonderful testament of faithfulness.

McKenzie family, I am sorry for your loss.  
He was such a kind soul and inspired me in many ways.  His love for music and food shine brightest in my thoughts of him however one memory outshines all...  This was the trip uncle Mike and Aunt Sue gave me and my mom Patty.  They bought our airfare, gave us a warm and welcoming stay in their Scottsdale home, took us out for lunch and dinner, and a day trip north to Sedona, Jerome, and Prescott.  I will never forget their generosity and I'll always cherish my memory of Uncle Mike ROCKING OUT singing out loud the whole drive long to QUEEN!   Freddy Mercury's voice will forever put a smile on my face, remembering uncle Mike singing and playing air guitar driving through beautiful Arizona.

Uncle Mike will be missed.  He was a very caring uncle and great uncle.  I'm so blessed that he was a part of my life and my childrens.  We will always remember the special uncle we lost.

Mike and the whole McKenzie family were a large part of my childhood on the farm in Parkrose.  My thoughts and prayers go out to Mikes family.

One of my best memories of my Uncle Mike is how he and Aunt Sue were there for my mom when she was going through a rough patch in her life. During this time Mom and I would go to Uncle Mike and Aunt Sue's on Friday nights. Mom learned how to drive later in life so navigating her way in the dark was still difficult. I was her co-pilot and together we found our way to Mike and Sue's house. Once there Uncle Mike would take me and Michelle to Safeway to pick out candy bars and rent a movie. Once back at their house we headed downstairs to watch our movie, eat our candy bars and dance, dance, dance. To me this was just a fun Friday night with my cousins. Not until I was an adult did I reflect back and realize we were there for Mom to get moral support and love from Uncle Mike and Aunt Sue. For that I am grateful to them both. Thank you Uncle Mike! And thank you for hosting backyard BBQs for so many years, keeping this family connected! Thank you Uncle Mike! Thank you! ??

Dear Suzie and family,
    We met Mike just a couple times over the last few years, but feel that we got to know him quite well through our mutual friend Carol O'Bill.  We know that Mike was long-suffering with his cancer, but that he never complained. Whenever Carol would inquire how he was doing the, the thumbs would go up and his sweet smile would appear. He was a real trooper, and a wonderful example of living our faith. You and your family now have a very special angel in your midst. Dearest Sue and Family,  Bob and I were very sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I'm glad he is out of pain but know the struggles you must be going through. He is mostly likely looking down on us with that wonderful humor he had.  We will miss him greatly and think of him often.

Lynda and I were saddened to hear of Mike's passing. I first met Mike as part of the "veterans contingent" at Mt Hood Community College, we were all a few years older and viewed the world through a different lens. My wife is a very good judge of character and she always has said that Mike is one of the good ones. I valued his friendship, he will be missed.

Dear Sue and the whole McKenzie family. We just spoke of you all yesterday. It was that all important few Sundays to Christmas and we were lucky enough to be part of your family tradition. Our first thought was mike and his health then Sue and how hard it is to be caregiver. We thought he is fine and now know he is fine and with our Lord. Renee and I will keep you in our prayers and look forward to the day we can wrap our arms around you Sue. God bless your family. With Love and caring.

     I was 7 years old when our family was fortunate enough to have Mike join our family.  Thru the years he has brought love and laughter to everyone of us.  Here is what I will always remember about him.
      Taking me on the train at the Portland Zoo lights as a child.  Singing to Jimmy Buffet while cooking the Thanksgiving turkey.  Dancing the twist to music. Taking "the cousins" to the store for candy bars before a night of cards.  Playing pinochle on all the holidays with the adults. Driving my sister and me around to all to buy Christmas decorations.  Babysitting my children at very young ages while my sister and I went shopping.  Driving me home from the beach the night my water broke and counting my contractions all the way home in the red VW station wagon. 
      He told me once "when I get rich and famous I will eat whipping cream on everything" and then forgot he told me that.   
     He was generous of his time and money.  He always put God and his family first.  He never complained.  He rolled with the punches.  I will miss him every day of my life, but I know I will see him once again.

Sue, sorry for your loss; Mike and I used to enjoy our lunches from time to time with Mike Schmilenko, Mike The Roofer, we used to have great times 
, eating at The Potsticker, which your Mike aptly named "The Gutsticker!".

Dear McKenzie Family, Mike was a few months older than me, and a year ahead at Central Catholic but we grew up together in Parkrose.  I'll light a candle at St. Rita's in his memory.

As my Godfather I think you did a swell job Mike! Thanks for your mentorship in helping me to survive my adolescence and the lesson to keep God in my life! You will be missed!

Through the years I have watched and heard about how your husband, father & grandfather supported and loved each of you. Whether it was cheering at sporting events, applauding at academic achievements, preparing a family meal on Sunday, giving his daughter's corsages on Easter or working alongside you, he was a blessing to all of your family. During your time of sadness I hope you will be able to hold those memories close to your heart and carry the essence of him with you daily.

I wanted to tell you how sorry I am for your loss.  I had the pleasure to meet all of you at on time or another during my years of doing lender work with your Dad and you.  Mike was one of the kindest people I have met.  I love his cartoon drawings.  Every Christmas during our years of working together Mike would bring me the famous Nordstoms silver box! He would always play a spot for me on your trips to Vegas and once he brought me "our" winnings!  He loved your trips to the East coast to see the fall foliage.  Ironically he came across my mind and heart on Monday... Love and prayers to each of you during this time...
