Visitation will be 10 AM to 4 PM on Saturday, November 19 and 10 AM to 5 PM on Monday, November 22 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. A celebration of his life will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, November 23 at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home.
Richard was born September 29, 1934 in Portland, Oregon to Alfred and Minnie (Crockett) Emra. He worked as a bus driver for TriMet for 22 years. He lived in Portland until moving to Woodburn two years ago.
Richard was an adventurous person who would try anything. He loved travelling. He had been to almost every state and many different countries including Greece, Italy, Australia and New Zealand. He would also “snowbird” during the winter months and travel in his RV. When Richard turned fifty, he accomplished his goal of riding his bicycle to the beach. His son Bill accompanied him in riding 110 miles for eight and a half hours to Lincoln City. Richard also liked four wheeling, hunting and deer camping. Richard read a lot and enjoyed watching old movies and television shows, especially old westerns like Bonanza and Gunsmoke. Most of all, Richard had a big heart and was always ready and willing to help others with anything, whether that was shoveling snow for his neighbors or mowing their lawn when they were out of town. He would do these things voluntarily because he loved to help others.
Richard is survived by his significant other, Rita Burch of Woodburn, OR; son, Bill Emra and his wife Clara of Gresham, OR; son, John Emra of Portland, OR; son, Gene Powell of St. Johns, OR; daughter, Vickie Sanders of Hillsboro, OR; brother John Emra of Woodburn, OR; sister, Joyce Misner of McMinnville, OR; 7 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
