Sammy was born on Sunday, October 26, 1975, to Samuel and Priscilla Benitez in
Los Alamitos, California. In 1981, the family moved to Portland, Oregon. Sammy graduated from David Douglas High School in 1995.
Sammy met Mariya Hall in 2005. He affectionately referred to her as his “Mama Bear,” and they married in 2012. Sammy was thrilled when he learned he was going to become a father. Rueben Allen Olmo and Emiliano Isaiah Pablo, were his pride and joy.
Sammy enjoyed being around people and having good conversation. He had a pleasing laugh, and as a young boy, would often giggle uncontrollably for countless minutes. Sammy was proud to be a Chicano, and loved his family and traditions. Every Christmas he would put on his “Clark Griswold” flannel and vest to decorate the tree. Sammy enjoyed going to Crown Point, Cannon Beach, and the Grotto.
Sammy was employed as a driver for PF Supply where he enjoyed being able to meet and interact with others. He had a keen ability to sense when others needed help and would always call his loved ones on their birthday.
Sammy will be forever cherished by his parents Samuel and Priscilla, wife Mariya, sons Rueben and Emiliano, sister Stephanie and her husband Doug, stepson Kristian and wife Priscilla, stepdaughter Kiana, grandchildren Emmanuel and Amiyah, and a host of devoted sister-in-law’s, brother-in-law’s, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
