

Shirley Baker Yost passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 15, 2011. She was born on January 22, 1926 to Ralph and Hazel (Owens) Baker in the rural community of Troutdale. She grew up working on the family farm. She attended Cedar Grade School and Gresham Union High School. Just before her 17th birthday, she married Lawrence Yost. A short time later he was drafted into WWII.
Shirley worked at Swan Island Shipyards and Iron Fireman during WWII. After the war she worked for the telephone company as a telephone operator for 27 years in Portland from which she retired from. She was active in the Troutdale Historical Society.
She and Lawrence resided in southeast Portland and raised two boys, Stephen and Larry. They moved to Corbett in the 70’s to take care of her father Ralph Baker. Stephen, her son, passed away in 1991 and her husband Lawrence passed away in 2002.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Donna Yost. She has six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Larry and his family reside on the family place in Corbett, Oregon.
Private burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Gresham, Oregon.
