Stanley Richard Thompson

Stanley was born on October 8, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan and was the son of Iver and Gena (Hugdahl) Thompson. He graduated from high school in Glenwood City, Wisconsin and shortly after enlisted in the Merchant Marines. In 1946, Stanley enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict and retired from the USMC Reserves in 1968 at the rank of Gunnery Sergeant.

In 1948, he moved to Salem, Oregon where he married Lois Elaine Boldt on August 28, 1948. He completed his machinist training in 1949 at Salem Equipment and went on to work as a machinist for many years. In 1969, he moved to Portland then to Gresham in 1972 and he owned and operated Parkrose Machine in Portland. He retired in 2002.

Stanley was a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Gresham Elks Lodge and Al Kader Shriners, where he served as the President in Gresham for two separate terms. He was also a member of the Lutheran Church.

Stanley enjoyed working and golf. He also enjoyed dancing with his wife, Lois. He was a devoted family man who adored his wife. He was a hard worker and had a wonderful work ethic that he passed on to his children. He was intelligent and loyal and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his wife, Lois of Gresham, children, Sandra Owens of Boring, Sherrie Hawkes of Gresham, Ricky Thompson of Estacada and Tricia Hegge of Alaska along with 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by 8 brothers and 3 sisters. His daughter, Karen Thompson preceded him in death.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 10:00 am at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Salem followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm also at Bateman Carroll Funeral Home.
