Terrence Milan Fuller was born on November 16th, 1946 In Portland Oregon to Floyd and Jo Fuller and raised in Beaverton. Terry was the third child of four, Mark, since passed, Sheila and his younger sister Martha. During family gatherings the four siblings would laugh at stories from their childhood. Whether it was Terry trading pets with other students during show and tell to bring home to mom and dad, Sheila getting hit in the face while trying to play football with the boys, Mark digging holes for Sheila to fall in, or Martha hiding on the top of the jungle gym trying to get away from their mom.
Terry attended St. Celia School and graduated from Jesuit in 1964. He attended Portland State for a brief time but soon realized that college wasn’t the right fit for him. Cops and Robbers was a favorite game for him as a child so into the Police Academy he went. Terry joined the Portland Police Bureau in 1972 and was a patrolman for 27 years until he “retired” in 1997. He made the newspaper a few times for his efforts as a patrolman: once for capturing a cougar, (the four legged kind) and being stabbed during a routine stop on patrol, to name two.
He met his wife Erika in a bar one night, very intoxicated, and informed her he was packing his bags and going to Australia. He only managed to get a passport photo taken; one our favorite photos to look back on. Needless to say he never made it. They were married on April 12th 1985. Soon after they welcomed their first child in August of 1986, a baby boy named Devin. A few years later they welcomed another boy name Ian in May 1989, and last but not least a daughter named Megan in March 1994. Terry’s first wish was to have a family and he got his wish with these children who were a handful.
He was always the provider of the family, sometimes working two jobs to provide for everyone. He joined the National Guard twice, first from 1966 to 1972 and again from 1989 to 1996. He enjoyed playing adult cops and robbers and Army. Once Terry retired from the bureau and the National Guard, he worked for the US Marshalls at the federal courthouse. He could not get away from law enforcement or wearing a uniform. He worked as a US Marshall for 19 years before retiring again in 2014.
Terry was a loving father to his three children and caring husband to his wife Erika, an anchor to his family. We will all miss hearing stories of his childhood and the back and forth between his sisters, because that’s what siblings do and we will miss him laughing at his own jokes before he could get the punch line out. But nothing will be missed more than the presence he had and knowing he would be there for his family.
The family invites all to pay your respects, at the memorial service for Terry will be held Thursday, March 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St Henry Catholic Church, 346 NW 1st St, Gresham, Oregon.
