William Joseph Stuart Jr.

William J. Stuart, Jr, (Bill) passed away on July 22, 2023, in his sleep. He was 77 years old. Bill resided in Gresham, OR for the past 50 years.

Bill was born in Hood River, OR on March 25, 1946, to William J. & Juanita A. Stuart. He was married to Lynnette C. Stuart (Lynne) on February 8, 1969, in Portland, OR. He retired from the Gresham/Barlow School District as a Custodian in 2010.

Bill graduated from Madison High School (Portland) in 1964, and immediately went into the Army and served in Germany from 1964 to 1967. He then attended the University of Oregon and suffered a broken neck in the 1967 on the parallel bars, while completing the gymnastics portion of his Undergraduate degree in Physical Education. After surgery and six weeks of rehabilitation, he continued his college career at Mt. Hood Community College. He graduated with his associate degree in 1971. He continued back at the U of O and graduated in 1973.

Bill was an avid runner in the 1960s, 70s, 80s, and even into the 90s. He ran over 16 marathons, finishing 2nd overall in his first marathon in Spokane, WA. He ran at Madison High School and won the mile district championship in 1964. He went on to run in Germany in many meets representing the United States Army. He continued his career at Mt. Hood Community College in 1969.

Bill is survived by his wife, Lynne, his son, Joseph Stuart and his wife Jamie, daughter, Megon Stuart-Kor and her husband Brian Kor, grandchildren, Ashlyn Stuart, Elijah Stuart-Kor, Hayden Stuart, and Kaley Stuart and sister Barbara Johnson.
