

Mrs. Holmes was born on June 26, 1922 in Bartow, Georgia. She was the daughter of the late William M. and the late Lorena W. Salter.
Mrs. Holmes graduated in September 1943 from The Macon Hospital School of Nursing. She entered the Army Nursing Corp in July 1944 serving in France at the 237th General Hospital. Mrs. Holmes began a 34 year career as a Georgia public health nurse in October 1947, spending 16 ½ years in Griffin. After her retirement she worked at Brightmoor Nursing Home.
She was well suited to nursing, possessing a great love of people. After retiring she loved traveling, gardening, playing bridge, and was devoted to her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jesse W. Eidson and Alan B. Holmes.
She is survived by her son, Thomas M. Eidson of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Deborah Eidson Classen of Griffin, GA; and son and daughter in law, James M. and Mary Julia Eidson of Griffin, GA; grandchildren, Christine N. Eidson, Charlotte, NC; Nicholas T. Eidson, Cheasapeake, VA; Jennifer Classen Stager and her husband Bret, Charlotte, NC; Christopher J. Classen and his wife Heather, Fayetteville, NC; James A. Classen, Jr., Fayetteville, NC; Caitlin E. Classen, Atlanta, GA; and James Will Eidson and his wife, Melanie, Seattle, WA. She is also survived by her sister, Billie Woodson, Thomaston, GA.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at the Griffin First United Methodist Church Chapel at 1:00p.m. The family will be available to receive friends after the funeral.
