

Mr. Peters was born September 29, 1924 son of the late William Samuel Peters and the late Mary Gertrude Jorden Peters. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in WWII as a Naval Aviator. Mr. Peters retired after 25 years with the City of Dayton Ohio Police Department and 13 years with the Dekalb County Sheriff’s Office in Smithville, TN. He was a State Field Service Chair for the Red Cross for Tennessee. In addition to his parents, Mr. Peters was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Suttles Peters and son, David Sproles.
Survivors include sons & daughters-in-law, Larry & Dody Sproles of MT, Darrell & Jackie Sproles of OH, Dr. Randy & Brenda Peters of Griffin, Rev. Lynn & Rosie Peters of S.C., Dr. Steve & Dr. Rhonda Peters of N.C.; sisters, Betty Cloud of LA, Bobbi Wheatley of VA, Delores Wilson also of VA; brother, Roger Peters of VA. Other survivors include nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Elmer Leon Peters will be conducted Tuesday June 4, 2013, at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home with Military Honors. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:30pm until 7:30pm and again on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the families requests memorial contributions be directed to Southern Crescent Technical College Foundation, 501 Varsity Road, Griffin, GA 30223 in memory of Mr. Peters.
The Haisten McCullough Funeral Home, 1155 Everee Inn Rd. is in charge of arrangements.
