

Miss Pilkenton was born on December 8, 1914 in Molena, GA, the daughter of the late John Thomas Pilkenton and Clenda Carriker Pilkenton. She was preceded in death by her two sisters: Elizabeth Pilkenton and Nelle Pilkenton Presley, and three brothers: Thomas, Jack, and Walter Pilkenton. She was a graduate of Molena High School and the Georgia State College for Women (GSCW) in Milledgeville. She received her Master’s Degree in Education from George Peabody College in Nashville, TN. Miss Pilkenton devoted her career to the field of education. She taught for over 21 years in four Georgia school systems: Buford, Carrollton, Thomaston, and Pike County. She was recognized as Teacher of the Year for Pike County High School and later for the entire Pike County School System. She served for 19 years as the Assistant State Supervisor of Business Education for Georgia and retired in 1977.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Margaret Pilkenton; three nieces: Mary Ann King, Sarah Beth Colwell, and Clenda Watkins, and four nephews: Tommy Pilkenton, Bill Pilkenton, Johnny Pilkenton, and Carl Presley. Numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2:00 pm at Mount Olive Baptist Church, Molena, GA. The Rev. Mark Harris, Dr. Ray Allen, and Rev. Billy Lawrence will officiate, and burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 28, 6:00-8:00 pm at the funeral home.
