

Ms. James was born in Experiment, GA on November 27, 1939, daughter of the late Dr. Fred Frazier Cowart and Theda Grace Jones Cowart.
She retired from the Griffin-Spalding County School System after 32 years as a school teacher and counselor. Ms. James served in many positions in the horse and dairy goat industry including, President of Brooks Saddle Club and the American Goat Society Board of Directors. She founded and co-owned Yellow Rose Farm and was well respected by her peers in the dairy goat world.
Ms. James was a graduate of the University of Georgia with a B.S. degree, an M.S. from Georgia State University and a Specialist degree in Education from the University of West Georgia.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law Shannon and Jason Lawrence of Shady Dale and Maryellen and Henry Penland of Madison; grandchildren, Jeff Donaldson of Williamson and Samantha, Frazier and Erin Penland of Madison; beloved aunt, Ann Jones of Griffin; cousins and
Their families, Jill and Randy Laster of Pike County, Jenna Laster of Atlanta, Holly Laster of Pike County and Julian and Frances Jones and family of Orchard Hill.
Funeral services for Ms. Kay Cowart James will be conducted on Friday August 19, 2011, at 2pm in the Chapel of Haisten McCullough Funeral Home. Pastor Shuford Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in Brooks Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be directed to Heifer International at www.heifer.org or your local animal shelter.
