

Dee was born on December 3, 1958, in Barnesville, Georgia. He lived there through his early childhood, and moved to Griffin, Georgia at age 9. He graduated from Griffin High School, where he was a member the golf team. From a young age, Dee had a love of mathematics, geography, highways, and bridges. He carried these passions into his adulthood and graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Civil Engineering. While studying at Clemson, Dee was a top ten golfer on the Clemson golf team and a member of the Sigma Epsilon Fraternity. After graduating, he passed the P. E. exam and became a certified professional engineer. He was also a member of the U.S. MENSA organization.
Dee was an avid lover of sports and especially Clemson athletics. He especially loved finding talented athletes. He took joy in other people’s successes. During the last couple of years of Dee’s life, he battled his illnesses with strength, dignity, and faith.
Mr. Hunter is survived by his son, Christian Barker Hunter; his mother and her husband, Mary Elizabeth and Tom Vause; his father, Olin Dewitt Hunter, Sr.; his sisters, Julie Elizabeth Layman and her husband, Todd, Terry Sue Colwell and her husband, Tim; his nephew, Charles Christopher Curtis, II; his nieces, Christa Elizabeth Conn and Cassie Chae Curtis; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Visitation will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Griffin, Georgia in the Fellowship Hall on Monday, August 11, 2014 from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. Services will follow at 3:00 P.M. in the Sanctuary.
