Virginia Eleanor Lewis McKoy

She was born in Spalding County on March 18, 1920, to the late Joe W. Lewis and Opal Steele Lewis. A graduate of Spalding County High School, she owned her own floral business out of her home for many years and later worked with her daughter Ginger Evans at Vaughn House Pottery. Mrs. McKoy used her God- given talent to create pulpit arrangements and all seasonal decorations for New Salem Baptist Church for more than fifty years. She was a very active member of New Salem, including membership in the Faithful—Loyal Workers Sunday School Class until poor health prevented her from continuing. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty three years, Robert Lee McKoy.

Mrs. McKoy is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Ginger and Rodney Evans, Carol and Donnie Helms all of Griffin; Three sons, Robert McKoy and fiancée Cena Hartman of Columbus, Joe McKoy and wife Debra of Griffin and Mark McKoy of Morgantown, WV; Nine grandchildren, Melanie and Jamie Fowler, Cammy and John Whiting, Carey and Mike Hartwick, David and Andrea Helms, Dianne Eggleston, Jason and Marija McKoy, Kasie and Sam Huston, Clint and Carmel McKoy, and Ashley and Ashlee McKoy; two step grandchildren, Miguel Santiago and Ana Santiago; sixteen great grandchildren, Jake and Grayson Fowler, Anthony and Carolyn Bunch, Kaylee Eggleston, Abby Helms, Aleksandra and Nikolas McKoy, Brady and Bailee Huston, Nolan McKoy, Harley McKoy, Logan and Caden McBurnett, Mina Santiago and Marcus Ogletree; One sister Joette Woodall of Griffin as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Virginia Eleanor Lewis McKoy will be conducted on Wednesday February 15, 2012, at 3 PM in the sanctuary of New Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Barnes, Rev. Terry Butler and Rev. Ralph Simmons will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 PM until 8 PM.
