Alice M. Nye

Alice Margaret Nye lost her battle with cancer at home in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan on January 21, 2015. Alice was born on March 30, 1933 in Kanawha, Iowa, to Agnes and James Yeakel. She was pre deceased by three brothers; Dwayne, Wayne, and James. She is survived by one sister, DeLoris McQuiston of Vancouver, Washington. She graduated from Kanawha High School. She met the love of her life at the University of Iowa and they were united in marriage on November 22, 1951 in Iowa City, Iowa. They had a magnificent love story which afforded them 63 wonderful years together. Alice and Robert relocated to Michigan in 1965. Alice was a Grosse Pointe resident for 51 years and a Grosse Pointe Park resident for 40 years. Alice is survived by her husband Robert, daughters, Julie King (Terry), Margaret Olson and Jean Ditta. She was pre-deceased by her son Robert. She is survived by six grandchildren, Anna Sanders (James), Elizabeth Cox (Steven), James Robert King (Jennifer), James David King, Kirsten Ditta and Susan Ditta. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Campbell King, Kaitlin King, Anna Grace King, Sydney Sanders and Blake Cox. Alice was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. She was also a member of The Society of the Descendants of the Schwenkfeldian Exiles. Alice was a woman of strong faith. She always believed in God's plan and that it was a perfect plan. One of her favorite verses was Psalms 46:10, "Be still, and know that I am God, I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth". She imparted her faith to her children and grandchildren in a most beautiful way. Alice was a wonderful Wife, Mother, and homemaker. She created many special and meaningful memories her family will always treasure. Alice enjoyed cooking, decorating, shopping and had a true passion for baking. Her family will remember her most for her profound listening skill, her kindness, compassion, optimistic outlook, and genuine warmth. A Memorial service will be held at a later date.
