
Barbara Tamblyn, 94, died peacefully on February 5, 2013 at St. John Hospital & Medical Center in Detroit. Barbara was born on May 25, 1918 in Detroit, the daughter of Nicholas and Susanna Wissinger. She graduated from Southeastern High School in 1936 and began working at Bank of the Commonwealth in Detroit. On November 29, 1941 Barbara married E. John "Jack" Tamblyn at Iroquois Avenue Lutheran Church in Indian Village. They made their home in Chicago for a few years while Jack was in the service and then returned to Michigan. Barbara was known for her fine cooking and baking that resulted in her family affectionately calling her "Barbara Crocker." Her pies, biscuits, entertaining and formal Sunday dinners were legendary. She also enjoyed reading and caring for her grandchildren. Barbara's daughters described her as the quintessential homemaker. She was an honest, trustworthy woman of high integrity. Through the years, Barbara was a volunteer at Bon Secours Hospital in Grosse Pointe and a former Girl Scout leader. She was also actively involved for over 50 years, having served as President, Recording Secretary and Treasurer, with the P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Opportunity) Sisterhood, a group that funded private scholarships to advance education opportunities for students pursuing higher education. Mrs. Tamblyn is survived by her three children, John G. (Heidi), Peggy Tamblyn Glick (Dennis) and Nancy Tamblyn Wayland (William); her six grandchildren Stephanie, John, Julie, Katie, Michael and Amy and two great-grandchildren, Madeline and Tyler. She was predeceased by her husband Jack in 2003. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Episcopal Church, 5601 Hatchery Road in Waterford. Rev. James Rizer will officiate. The Church is part of the Canterbury-on-the-Lake Senior Living Retirement Community where Barbara was a resident.
