Charles H. Farrar born March 3, 1927, in Ehrenfeld, PA; a small town where nearly everyone worked in the coal mines. Charles was born to Henry and Jane Ann Farrar. Henry, from England and Jane Ann from Ireland. They came to the U.S. around 1922. My Dad was the 8th of 9 children. Dad's father was killed in a coal mine accident in 1936. John Farrar, my Dad's oldest brother was working in the same mine. Dad's mother was left to raise the young children with very little money. The family then moved to Detroit in 1943 for new opportunities. Dad left school at 16 years old to help support the family. Dad enlisted in the U.S. Army in April, 1945, right after his 18th birthday. He became staff sergeant quickly and was honorable discharge in March, 1947. He then went to school at night to learn the tool & die trade in Detroit. Dad married Patricia Sullivan October 8, 1949. Together they have 7 children, 3 sons, 4 daughters, 20 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He joined his brother John in 1959 in business in Warren, MI. J&J Burning and Fabricating Co. is now celebrating its 50th year. It is now run by his children but Charles still active in the business. We make welded steel fabrications for the machine tool industry. Dad was a devout Roman Catholic and active at the family parish of Our Lady Star of the Sea. Family was everything to my Dad. He believed in always loving each other and to always get along and work things out. His wife was everything to him. They were one, and would be 60 years in marriage this October. Love conquers all. Thank you Gary
