Clark Stevens, 92, of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, passed away on February 14,, 2026. He was born in in Detroit on November 28, 1933 to Valentine and Florence (nee Potrykus) Salatka, the last of three children.
Clark grew up on the east side of Detroit near Gratiot and Harper and attended Patronage of St. Joseph School. He was a 1951 graduate of DeLaSalle Collegiate, along with obtaining a BS from the University of Detroit, and later a JD from Wayne State University. During his time at U of D, he met Katheen Tubacki at a dance, marrying on September 1, 1956.
He thought that he would become an engineer, but practicality (or perhaps lack of manual skills) steered him toward a career in public accounting. Clark’s career in accounting took him from the city of Detroit to the Internal Revenue Service, and finally to Ernst and Ernst. While at the firm of Ernst & Erst (later Ernst & Young) he decided to go to law school at night. He then practiced tax & corporate law for 40+ years, first with the firm of Regan and Stevens, then in his later career, by himself. He was renowned for his financial acumen. He advised many organizations, sat on the boards of several companies local and international. Aside from his career advising duties, he volunteered his time to civic and community organizations. Notably he helped form financial committees in the 1970s that were at two places dear to him, St. Joan of Arc parish in St. Clair Shores, and the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, both of which he served for decades.
Clark and his wife, Kathleen, celebrated 69 years of marriage in September of 2025. Together they shared a love of travel, most notably Islamorada in the Florida Keys, and Montana to visit his son, Mark, and daughter-in-law, Margee. They made countless trips Up North, to Arizona, and Europe. He loved his local sports teams and shared that passion with his sons. Clark was known for his quick wit, endless one-liners, and genuine sense of humor, often the life of the party.
A long-time and notable member of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, it was easy to find him there year-round, but especially in the summer. He was usually kicking back with his copy of the WSJ, where he and Kathleen entertained friends on his appropriately-named boat – “Clark’s Bar”.
Clark is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen; and loving sons, Glenn Stevens and Mark Stevens (Margaret). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his loving sisters, Leona Kulaszewski (Edward), and Delores Connell (Jack).
Visitation will be Thursday April 9th at AH Peters in Grosse Pointe Woods from 4-8 pm. His memorial mass will be at St. Joan of Arc on Friday April 10th at 10 am, lying in state at 9:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Solanus Casey Center https://www.solanuscasey.org/help-us-serve/donate/ in Detroit; or the American Lung Association https://www.lung.org/mi
