Clifford Braathen

Clifford Allan Braathen, age 84, of St. Clair Shores, Michigan passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 30, 2023. Cliff was born on October 5, 1938 in Washington, DC, but lived most of his life in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated high school from Southeastern High School in Detroit and went on to earn a degree at the Detroit Institute of Technology.

He was an architectural model maker at Giffels & Rossetti and Minoru Yamasaki & Associates. He worked on the model of the twin towers for the World Trade Center under the latter company. Cliff also was employed as a limousine driver, greeter and driver for AH Peters Funeral Home and Desmond Funeral Homes, and a security guard for the Edsel & Eleanor Ford House. He was a lifelong Detroit Red Wings fan and had shared season tickets for many years. Cliff loved his family and spending time with them more than anything. They went on a different family vacation every year, from Disney World to frequent camping and canoeing trips.

Cliff had a servant's heart and loved to help others. He volunteered on his children’s school committees, on neighborhood watch, and at the churches he attended. He is survived by his loving wife Joan, who he married on May 9, 1964, his sons Eric and Fr. Scott, SOLT, and his daughter, Bonnie (John) Burke. He was “Big Grandpa” to Daniel, Brennan, and Bailey Burke.

Cliff was predeceased by his parents, Esther and Clayton, his brother, James, and baby granddaughter, Katie Marie. In lieu of flowers, please donate if you wish to:

A visitation for Clifford will be held Friday, May 5, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan 48236 with a rosary at 6:30 PM.

An instate will occur Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St Lucy Catholic Church, 23401 Jefferson Ave, Saint Clair Shores, MI 48080. A funeral mass will occur Saturday, May 6, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St Lucy Catholic Church, 23401 Jefferson Ave, Saint Clair Shores, MI 48080.
