Cora Ruth Michael

Born on February 20, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan, Cora was the cherished daughter of Minnie and Angus Sutherland. She pursued her education at Wayne State University, earning a degree that led her to a fulfilling career as a physical education teacher. In this role, she shared her passion for movement and well-being with generations of students.

Cora built a life filled with grace and quiet strength alongside her husband, Camille Michael. Together they made their home in Grosse Pointe Woods until his passing. Her family remained the heart of her world—she is remembered with love by her daughter Jeanne Forbes (John); granddaughters Christa Forbes and Katherine Forbes; and numerous great-grandchildren who brought great joy. Cora’s memory also lives on through her beloved sister Christina Petit(Skip)and older brother Angus Sutherland, as well as many nieces and nephews who held her close.

She was preceded in death by her husband Camille; parents Minnie and Angus; sisters Elizabeth and Margaret; and brothers James and David.

Cora found deep joy in tending gardens that bloomed under her care. Her hands were rarely without soil, and she took great pride in cultivating beauty around her home. Cora also enjoyed the friendly competition of bowling lanes. Her days were brightened by the presence of grandchildren and the loyal companionship of beloved dogs.

A member of Grosse Pointe Woods Presbyterian Church, Cora’s faith was a guiding light throughout her life.

In recent years, she was cared for by a compassionate circle of caregivers—Sara, Valerie, Raven, Carol, Michelle, Carlotta, Cheryl, and Tanlanda—whose kindness brought comfort to Cora and those around her.

A committal service will be held on December 5, 2025 at noon at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel, 18201 Clinton River Road.
