Dolores Jeannette Nicholson passed away on June 12, 2016 at the age of 85. She was born on May 6, 1931 in Detroit; daughter of Joseph and Leona (nee Demery) Stewart. Mrs. Nicholson has been a resident of Grosse Pointe Woods since the early 1960's. She raised her four sons proudly after her husband passed away at an early age. Dolores was a caring person who loved to help other people. This was evident as she excelled in her career as a registered nurse where she specialized in geriatrics and pediatrics. Her career as a nurse included working for St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Detroit, a local pediatrics office, and at the Children's Home of Detroit in Grosse Pointe Woods. In 1985, she became employed by General Motors as an occupational RN. Both while working at GM, and throughout her retirement, Dolores continued her formal nursing education. She achieved numerous educational certificates while completing many educational courses to enhance her skills. She was proud of her sons David Owen (Ann Marie), Brian Stewart, Paul William, and the late Robert Mark Nicholson. She adored her grandchildren Michael, Rachel, and Matthew. She will be dearly missed by her sister Elizabeth L. Dowell (Charles). She was predeceased by her loving husband Dr. Hiram A. Nicholson, Gynecologist. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Her Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 am. Reverend Randy Boelter will officiate. Dolores will be buried next to her beloved Hiram at Roseland Park Cemetery in Berkley. The following is the obituary that will appear on the church's service folder: Dolores Nicholson 1931-2016 It has pleased the Lord of life to summon out of this vale of tears and unto Himself in heaven the soul of our dear sister in Christ, Dolores Jeanette Nicholson, who was born on the 6th day of May in Detroit, MI in the year of our Lord 1931, the daughter of James Joseph Steward and his wife Leona ne'e Demery Stewart. Dolores attended Cross of Glory Lutheran Church in Detroit and later transferred her membership to St. James Lutheran in Grosse Pointe Farms, and then to Christ the King Lutheran Church in Grosse Pointe Woods, where she faithfully worshiped the Lord and received the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper with her fellow believers. Dodi loved studying the Word of God, for it was her guide and strength in life and the basis for her enduring hope in Jesus Christ. During her work experience at General Motors she obtained her Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Services from Mercy College of Detroit, graduating in the last class before its merger with The University of Detroit. The very week she graduated, the May/June 1991 issue of Professional Nurse magazine contained her first published article entitled, "Employee Drug Screening: A Help Or An Invasion of Privacy?" by Dolores J.
