My earliest memories of Don come from visiting my grandparents. Don was always there with his incredible comic book collection, sharing the first versions of Batman, Superman and the Archie series. I would spend hours reading those standards. He was always cheerful and patient with me. Don fostered my interest in collecting coins, for he had an amazing collection himself. Don had a brilliant mind. I became aware of it at early age when he would routinely tell me the baseball averages of the entire line up of the Tigers; not just his favorite player: Al Kaline. He was a walking statistical compendium for the Pistons and Lions as well. Don exhibited an admirable calm demeanor at all times, although he revealed an intense competitive spirit on the basketball court. He was a great player, competing in church leagues through out the tough inner city. He was quite proud of winning a gold medal in Basketball in the Senior Olympics. He exemplified the Christian ideal by the way he lived his life. Love was his cornerstone. His grand children will miss him. He was quick with the double entendre, and really laughed hard. His observation was a witty perspective of reality. He leaned how to love flowers from Pop, for he still had his old Iris bulbs planted around the cottage at Lake Huron. One of my best of all time memories was when we were celebrating his uncles birthday (Kip) with all of his cousins present. It was a sunny, windy day at the beach, we all walked along together. The wind was streaming through our hair. There was a oneness that permeated the air, a time of profound happiness and a silent acceptance of our short time on this earth. We are all part of everything. The future, present and the past. Fly on proud bird, you're free at last.

Carole, please accept our most sincere condolences. Along with Don, Carol and I were members of the youth group at East Grand Boulevard Methodist Church in Detroit; when this group was reunited after all these years, we had a chance to visit with you and Don and do some wonderful remembering. Please be assured of our prayerful support. We regret being unable to come to the funeral.

Don was a gentle soul. I will always remember him as being a kind loving man. I can remember watching him play basketball with my Dad on church leagues when I was younger. He had so much respect for my Dad. He also was very fond of his cousins which will always be remembered. He had such a passion for sports. He knew more about my home basketball team than I did. He had an incredible memory for such things. I can remember his wedding. I thought he was such a lucky man to marry his wife Carol. I thought she was so beautiful and nice. My prayers go out to the Family. Don will be missed.

To All, Meeting Don at Davis Tool was a true blessing in my life. I looked up to Don. He was an encouraging individual whose outlook and efforts made a difference. You will be missed. I have great memories that will always bring a smile. Thank you for being my friend. Jeremiah 33:3

We enjoyed the opportunity to be "vacation neighbors" in Port Austin with Don. Burnt Cabin Pointe will not be the same without him.

As a kid, Don was 10 years older than I was and, as kids do, we related to others our own age. It wasn't until latter in my life that Don and I started to get to know each other. Occasional family events I attended as an adult afforded me the time and the opportunity to understand Don and see him as the beautiful person that he was. I will miss him.

Whenever I eat a scoop or even two of ice cream I will try to enjoy it as much as Don enjoyed eating ice cream. Whenever I watch a good basketball game I will remember how much Don enjoyed a good game. I will miss those e-mails after a good PU/MI matchup. When I spend time with family, I hope that I will appreciate and cherish the time because that is what he did when he was with family. Our lives have been so blessed because Don chose to include us in his life. We will treasure each memory.

Don is the cousin that I've kept most in contact with through my adult life. He will be dearly missed. Brian
