Elsa was born on December 8, 1923 to parents Umberto Carlesso and Elisa Venzo. Elsa was raised in Italy, her family had immigrated back to their home country after her birth in Detroit. Back in Italy, in her home village, she met the love of her life, John Camazzola. At the time, John was in the service during World War II, and was gone for six years. When he returned, John and Elsa had reacquainted themselves with one another. The two were married in 1947, and immigrated back to the United States to start their own family. John and Elsa had a strong partnership together. They loved to entertain, and their door was always open to friends and family. While John was the entertainer, Elsa was the chef in the kitchen. Almost weekly she made pasta from scratch since it seemed like every Sunday afternoon they had company over.
Elsa's greatest joy was her family. She was a loving wife, mother, Nonna, and Bisnonna, who delighted in the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was always filled with warmth, love, and the aroma of delicious homemade Italian cooking, where countless memories were made and stories shared. Elsa was very proud to be Italian, and worked her whole life to preserve her heritage to pass along to her children, grandchildren, and eventually great-grandchildren.
A proud and active member of The Venetian Women's Club, Elsa dedicated many years to fostering community and preserving the cultural heritage she held dear. She also was an active parishioner at St. Matthew Catholic Church that provided her with much joy. Her contributions to the club and church were numerous, and her presence will be deeply missed by her fellow members, parishioners, and friends.
Elsa's life was a testament to the values of faith, family, and heritage. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though she has departed from this world, her spirit and the impact of her love will remain with us forever.
