

Elsie Ann Venettis passed away peacefully at Select Specialty Health Care Facility in Grosse Pointe Farms on March 2, 2010. She was born on February 6, 1921 in Essen, Germany; daughter of Fritz and Augusta (Nee Wienkemeier) Klein. She immigrated to the United States in 1928. Elsie was very athletic in her youth. She was on the synchronized swimming team in high school. She enjoyed dancing to "Big Band" music and was a speed skater. Elsie met her husband in 1939. While he went away to participate in the War, she worked at D.J. Healy's Department Store. Elsie and James were married on October 20, 1945 at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church in Detroit. Their family started on Pennsylvania Street in Detroit and lived on Berkshire Street until moving to Grosse Pointe Farms in 1964. Mrs. Venettis was the prototypical homemaker. She was a wonderful gardener, and an exceptional cook. She volunteered at her Church as often as possible and rarely missed participating in her children's school events. Elsie will be missed by her adoring husband James. She was proud of her son James Charles (Cathleen), and daughter Diane Venettis Peers. She adored her grandchildren Lindsey, Colin, Jimmy, and Kelley. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 10:00 AM at A.H. Peters Funeral Home 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Her family will receive guests at 9:00 am. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association 208 S.
