Erik Svoeuy, of Fraser, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2020 at the age of 46 after becoming ill with symptoms of Covid-19. Erik was born on January 25, 1974 in Cambodia to Savath and Sunnary Svoeuy.
Erik is the beloved husband of Natalie for 15 years. He is the loving Father of Samantha and Nicholas, and Dogs Daisy and Wilma. Erik will be deeply missed by his brother Michael (Rasheida) Svoeuy, siblings-in-law Jeffrey (Anne Marie) Mayes, Lawrence Mayes, and Priscilla Mayes. He is the loving uncle of Aaron, Kelsey; Tyler and Mia. He is also survived by his parents, Aunt Saphan Svoeuy, and parents-in-law William and Janet Mayes who he was very close to.
Family was the most important thing to Erik, and he made sure to stay close to them, even though they live around the world. He was expectantly close to his parents, and helped take care of them even though they several states away. He also made sure to keep in touch with relatives he has in Cambodia. Erik always supported the kids in everything they did, and never hesitated to express his love for them. He never missed one of Samantha’s dance competitions or recitals. While they were at home Erik would have her teach him some steps, always laughing and joking along the way. Erik and his son Nicholas shared a special bond over their passion for baseball. Erik loved baseball from a very young age and played throughout his life, including at his Alma Matter New York University (NYU). He has worked with Nicholas since he could walk, teaching him how to hit, fielding and to be a catcher. He is head coach of Nicholas’s travel baseball team, Detroit Revolution 11U Red. He is a great coach, and loves all of the boys on the team, treating them as his own. He didn’t just coach, but taught them the love of the game, teamwork and having fun.
Erik was also known for his generosity and sense of humor. He would give you the shirt off his back if it meant making your life easier. Erik had a natural talent for making people laugh and many will remember him for his smile.
A private family visitation will be held at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home in Warren.
A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be scheduled at a later date.
