Frances Marie Merritt

Frances Merritt was born in Fairmont, West Virginia the daughter of Joseph and Angeline Allevato. On February 9, 1957 she married William Merritt at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Detroit. Together they raised two children, William, Jr., and Lisa. This year they celebrated sixty years of marriage. Early on she worked as a travel coordinator for American Airlines handling major accounts such as Ford Motor Company. She and William travelled at this time as well as later in their marriage especially enjoying trips to Europe. Frances was a good cook, especially traditional Italian dishes utilizing her home-made pasta sauce. She doted on her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and enjoying solving crossword puzzles. Frances kept her home meticulously clean. For the last seventeen years she and William resided at Siesta Key near Sarasota, Florida, moving back to Michigan three years ago. While living in Florida, Fran was a longtime volunteer at the Sarasota hospital lending her enthusiastic and compassionate personality in several capacities. Fran's compassion was an instrument and extension of her strong faith. This faith not only sustained her but was an example and inspiration to all those around her. Mrs. Merritt was the beloved wife of William, Sr..the dear mother of William Jr. (Jenny Lynn), and Lisa Saneda (Steven), the loving grandmother of Victoria, Alexandria, Matthew and Benjamin. Sister of Katherine, Margaret, Anthony, David, Rose Ann, and Diane. She is predeceased by her parents Joseph and Angeline Allevato. Frances went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday April 5th, safe in the arms of Jesus. The funeral service for Frances will take place on Saturday 12 noon at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. The officiant will be Pastor Don Graham. Visitation will take place on Friday from 3 until 8 pm. The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to Martin Road Gospel Chapel, 20505 Martin Road, St. Clair Shores, MI 48081
