Frank J. Baldwin was born in 1931 to Frank and Catherine Baldwin of Bay City, MI. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War as an MP in the Philippines, before returning home to work in his grandfathers service station in Detroit where he met the love of his life, Clara Anthony, whom he married in 1955. Moving from Detroit to Mt. Clemens and finally to Grosse Pointe Woods where they have lived for 45 years. Over the years, he and Clara enjoyed traveling, including trips to Egypt, Hong Kong, and Greece. He loved automobiles and car racing, and even tried his hand at restoring cars. He was active in Ham Radio, serving in the local Sky Watch group, providing communications to sky spotters during bad storms and weather, talking with other radio operators around the world, and serving on the board of a local Ham radio club. It was through his work with Ham radios that he became an Official with the Sports Car Club of America as a founding member of Fox Radio, a group that provided race communications for Race Control and Emergency teams at the Detroit Grand Prix in Downtown Detroit and Belle Isle, as well as races around the U.S. and South America. In retirement from his job as a warehouse manager, and later purchasing liaison, for Franks Nursery and Crafts, he and Clara continued traveling, often visiting Greece in the Fall and Spain or Florida for weeks in the winter. Always the able and talented handyman around the house, he took up woodworking and turned their garage into a woodworking shop where he made items such as benches, brackets and wooden holders of all sorts for family and friends. Although he owned many cars over the years, probably the most interesting was a 1944 Willys Jeep, painted with Military Police markings, that he would drive around Grosse Pointe and in Memorial Day parades. Franks family was his entire world. He and Clara had one daughter, Calli, on whom he doted and spoiled. His love of cars and working with his hands he gladly passed on to Calli, his constant assistant and apprentice, working on projects like painting, wallpapering, roofing, woodworking and more. His love for Clara and Calli was only surpassed by his love for his two granddaughters, Claire and Kate of Grosse Pointe Farms. He was the supervisor of many projects in his later years, with Calli, Claire and Kate his willing crew, including an elaborate shelving for Claires dorm room and a shed for the cottage, built from scratch. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Clara, his daughter, Calli (Ian) Duncan and granddaughters Claire and Kate Duncan.
