Mrs. Meyka, My heart is heavy today as I sit and think of the passing of your husband and my dad. I know you are a strong person and I hope you spend some time in Virginia reflecting on the many cherished memories you have of Mr. Meyka. He'll be missed. Talk to you in October. For the past 15 years each time I was able to be with Uncle Mike, I could see my mom with me! In the physical appearance of the eyes and facial expressions there were so many similarities that it amazed me. I often wondered how a sister and brother could look so alike. Even too in the emotional and verbal expressions, there it was. My childhood years have such great memories of Uncle Mike and Aunt Bernice. My parents from the beginning considered Uncle Mike very special in that he is my Godfather, and to that I can say he was always "there for me". I seem to recall that on payday for Uncle Mike, maybe it was Thursdays, that they would drop off Susie and Don at our East Detroit home while they would go grocery shopping together. We kids would play at the park across the street (now Memorial Field), we just called it the park. We would play outside games, like tag and hide and seek till the street lights came on!!

We know that Pop's favorite verse is Psalm 118:24 which reads "This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." While it is very difficult, we must take this to heart as this is exactly what Pop would want. We can find peace knowing "...there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." (Rev 21:4). Second Corinthians 5:6-8 reminds us that "...while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord." Amen to that! Nanny, you are constantly in our hearts and prayers. Pop, We miss you so much it hurts, but boy can't we wait to sit and chat again in the LORD's house!

Mrs. Meyka, The short period of time that I got to know you and your husband was my pleasure! I know he is resting at peace now with my father who passed away yesturday Sept. 20th at 1:00 in the afternoon after less than24 hours in hospice at Beaumont hospital. I wanted to share this with you as we will be having our services for my father at the SAME dates and times that you will be bidding farewell to your husband or else I would have come to see you. I am so very sorry for your loss. Uncle Mike, my Dad's little brother, is now with him in heaven. My prayers are with Aunt Bernice, Don, Diana, Sue, Michael and all their families.
