

George Cueter, age 87, died peacefully on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit. George was born on August 19, 1925 in Detroit, the son of Joseph and Mary (nee Simon) Cueter. He grew up on Detroit's eastside and graduated from Southeastern High School. He served four years in the United States Marines until WWII was over. He went to college at UCLA and then Wayne State University where he received his Bachelor's degree in accounting. Soon after college, he began working at the family's business, Family Creamery. In 1965 he began his own business, Cueter Investment, in Grosse Pointe Woods, a commercial real estate company. George enjoyed golf, playing card with friends and going to the casino. Mr. Cueter was very active at St. John Hospital and was a life member of the hospital's Guild. He served as the Guild's president from 1959 through 1971. He was also a former member of the Grosse Pointe Woods Kiwanis and Veterans of Foreign Wars. George was a very generous man and was an active supporter of the Kundig Center at Carmel Hall and St. Frances Home for Boys. Mr. Cueter is survived by his wife of 50 years, Catherine; his son Antonino (Beth); his granddaughter, Gia; siblings, Annie Betrus, Nannette Cueter, Joseph Cueter, Georgette Hart, John Cueter, Delores Charboneau; and his beloved niece, Terrah Montel. He was predeceased by his brother Anthony Cueter. Mr. Cueter will lie instate at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 467 Fairford Road at Morningside, in Grosse Pointe Woods from 9:00 a.m. Thursday until the funeral mass begins at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Gary Smetanka will officiate. A private entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Detroit. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to Fr. Solanus Casey Center, 1780 Mt. Elliott, Detroit 48207.
