Geraldine Helen Clark, 82, of St. Clair Shores, passed into peace on Saturday, Feb. 15, 2020 at the St. John Medical Center with her husband, David L. Clark, 82, by her side. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend, and homemaker in the Grosse Pointe area.
Geraldine Helen Ogurek (Gerry) was born Nov. 30, 1937, to Michael and Helen Ogurek. The eldest of three children, serving as oldest sibling to Donald Ogurek and Christine Ogurek (Elliott). Gerry graduated high school from St. Paul Catholic School in Grosse Pointe in 1955. As the big sister, Gerry nurtured and assisted in raising her brother and sister while also working at her mother’s bakery (she could make a mean apple pie!).
Gerry met her beloved husband, David Lee Clark, for the first time at Richard’s Drive-In. He remembers her wearing her father’s white shirt, tied at the waist, khaki shorts, and gray socks with loafers. After “hanging around together†for nearly a decade, they were married on Feb. 20, 1965 at St. Paul Catholic Church.
Whether it was in Grosse Pointe or at her cottage on Lake Huron, she cultivated a warm and loving home in which family and friends always felt welcomed and cared for. She loved to cook, entertain and garden at her cottage, Cradle Knoll, in Harrisville, MI. As matriarch, Gerry was the heart and foundation to her family, which extended to nieces and nephews, cousins and friends who were always welcomed with a big hug, usually something to eat, and often a bit of sage advice.
Gerry is also survived by her son David Clark, Jr. (Joslyn), and daughters Kathryn Dimond (James), and Susan Thill (Robert). She was the grandmother to Charlotte, Matthew, Jack, Nicholas, Andrew, and Kate and over thirty nieces and nephews all who adore and will miss her.
Memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 20th at A.H. Peters funeral home in Grosse Pointe Woods from 4p-8p. Funeral Mass and in-state memorial will be on Friday, February 21st at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church in Grosse Pointe Farms beginning at 11:30a. She will be interred at Mt. Joy in Alcona, MI at a date yet to be determined.
