

Grace Formicola (nee Bologna) passed away peacefully in Grosse Pointe Farms on February 2, 2019 at the age of 93. She was born April 26, 1925 to Ciro and Anna (nee Carollo) Bologna. Grace loved tending to her vegetable garden, where she grew tomatoes for her homemade sauce. She was an excellent cook and seamstress. Her family fondly remembers her as the "quintessential Sicilian mother and grandmother, whose favorite things were cooking Italian food and spending time with her family. She was the most loving mother and grandmother. We will cherish her loving spirit forever." Grace was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leo, her son, Joseph Formicola, daughter Maria Giordano, and granddaughter Christina Formicola. Survivors include Charles (Moya) Formicola, Catherine (Joseph) Check, Anna (Will Miller) Formicola. She was the proud grandmother of Emily (Karl) Richardson, Joseph Formicola, Lauren Check, Joseph (Lesley) Check II, Gus Miller, and Dominic, Lia, Carl, Joseph, Anna and Michael Giordano and dear great-grandmother of Julian Richardson. Grace is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Ellen Formicola, and son-in-law, Carl Giordano. She leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. A memorial mass will be held February 16 at 10am, instate at 9:30am, St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Mack Avenue, St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Capuchin Monastery www.thecapuchins.org are appreciated by the family.
