I first met Hector at the Roma Cafe during one of his "Round Table" meeting with his friends. He introduced me to all the guys & I soon realized that I was in the presence of great men, with Hector at the helm. Hector would always spend time with you & ask about your family, no matter how busy that he was at the time. Hector, God Bless you & keep you in His arms in Heaven. MY first date with Leonard Barnes was in 1953 and he took me to the Roma (another first) and introduced me to Hector who treated us royally as he did for all the following years....Our children frequently accompanied us as they too remember the warm greeting we always got. Don't even know where to start or write...Growing up on Winthrop, Sunday dinners @ Timpa's hosted by Hector & Stella for the neighbors, Golfing, Bowling @ ABC Bowl(ask my brother about that), Washing their car, Shoveling snow, cutting their lawn or not daring to say no when Hector or Stella was shoving a 5, 10 or 20$ bill in your pocket while still in school, what he said to me when he was the first to see me after being out all night(age17)., my first table working at the Roma on New Years Eve---The list goes on and on. In my whole life I have not met anyone more Generous, Funny, Considerate and Friendly than Hector. Though 20 yrs my senior, I felt like a friend more than just a kid that grew up down the street. His attitude & personality were contagious & you knew you would be laughing whenever you saw him. I feel deeply for Janet's loss. But I know she got many of her dad's gifts. It won't be the same with him gone but he & the Roma will live on through Janet, her family & the Roma staff. â¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸

Condolences on the passing of Hector. He was a wonderful neighbor. We will miss his cheerful greetings as he went out each day.

My Dad is Marco SuzziValli . When he came to this country in 1953 from the Rep. San Marino he was 26 years old and came to work for your Mom and Dad at the Roma CafÃ© till 1962. He started as a busboy and one day your Mom said "Marco you have to put on this jacket, you need to wait on tables now!" He said he was afraid to make a mistake and she said "Don't worry you will do fine". He said he met Soupy Sales and got an autograph from Liberace on a menu. He said that once your Dad went to Italy and when he came back he gave my Dad a tie from Torino. He said your Mom and Dad were so wonderful to him. Once when he came to eat at the restaurant, your Dad introduced him to you and he said you kissed him on both cheeks like you're supposed to do. All my life I heard how my Dad wanted to name me Stella but I only recently found out it was after your Mom. When I told him Tuesday about your Dad's passing, he cried. My Dad is 88 and doesn't drive anymore so I offered to pick he and my Mom up in Troy where they live and bring them to the funeral home. He said "Tropo triste, non posso" he just couldn't, it was too sad for him. So that's why I'm writing this to you.
We are so very sorry to hear of your Dad's passing and offer prayers to you Janet and your family.

His last breath on earth was his first breath in Heaven. Imagine the reception!! Gin Rummy non stop! He was the first to tell you what a wonderful life he had! He loved his family and he had a zest for living! His legacy lives on in his beautiful daughter, Janet and granddaughter, Jessica. My prayers are with his family.

The Sossi family always made everyone feel like family. Prayers and love to a very special man and his family.

Hector will be sadly missed. I, too, grew up going to the Roma Cafe on a regular basis with my family, The Weitenberners. When I got married he accommodated us with hosting my rehearsal dinner. They even gave us a wedding present. Everyone there were such wonderful people, it felt like family to be with them. God bless Hector and his daughter and family.

A special man to our family. We are deeply saddened by his passing. He has joined Stella and will carry one their beautiful marriage. A father figure to many. Prayers are with Janet, BJ and Jessica during this very difficult time. Hugs and prayers to you.

Stella and Hector were good friends of my family and my Uncle Lou's family. It was a tradition for my brother, Randall, and I to go to the Roma Cafe growing up and right through our parents passing. aWell I have to believe that Hector, my Uncle Lou and my Dad are all up there playing cards like they use to here and in Florida. My prayers are with him.

My prayers and thoughts go out to Hector's family. He was a great friend to my father during the many years they shared together and for that I will be forever grateful. His great spirit of hospitality and kindness to others while serving the community with the best Italian food in the City of Detroit will be remembered by all.

I remember Hector when I was a little girl! Went to the Roma Cafe many times with my grandparents and my parents! Now at age 68 I have taken my children and my friends to the Roma! My grandparents owned Gus's steakhouse in Lake Orion for many years. He will be missed by all! Love and prayers to his family

My heartfelt condolences to you, Janet, and your family. Hector was one of a kind, a true gentleman. I was saddened to hear of his passing. The Roma Cafe was a wonderful place for many of the old Ludington News employees to spend an afternoon, especially when Hector was in the house. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Hector was a great friend in the 70\'s. I sold him aged beef loins and knew his daughter, janet,and the extended family.
 To know him, was to like him!

I was so sorry to hear the news about Hector. My parents, George & Hetty Munro loved him, and knew him since he was a waiter. They would take me to the Roma every Friday night since I was a kid in the 50's. My wife and I still go every once and a while. Everyone will miss him

Hector was a wonderful person, and we enjoyed visiting Italy with him and Stella. We are in Florida for the winter and sorry we can't be there for the service. But he is in our prayers and thoughts.

My prayers and thoughts are with the family, Hector and Stella were very kind to me during and after my time with our friend John Van Assche.I know they're all together now up above maybe even playing Gin Rummy.

The end of another great era with the passing of Hector. We spent a good part of our lives at Roma with Hector, Marino and all of the wonderful staff. Our family still visits there after all these years. Hector\'s happy smiling face will be missed but the memories will never die. My condolences to the Sossi family and staff at the restaurant

My deepest condolences to Janet Belcoure as well as the entire family and staff of the Roma Cafe. I met and talked with Hector many times when I went to Roma Cafe and he was there greeting, smiling, and just being Hector. You could not help but love this man even though you were not related to him except as a friend and customer of his (and Janet\'s) establishment which has been a Detroit and surrounding area iconic place to eat, feel appreciated, and have a wonderful time with Hector, Janet, and staff.

 It never seems fair when someone is taken away from us, especially when they are as sweet and wonderful as you were. We are all extremely lucky to have known and spend time with someone as
witty, honest, loving and thoughtful as you were. It was my pleasure to have shared many good times with you and your family. We shared lots of laughs, enjoyed playing gin rummy and many hours of
watching Blue Bloods.
My prayers go out to your family and other good friends through this difficult time. Our loss is God's gain in heaven
where I know he will welcome you with open arms.

He gave so much to the City of Detroit with his restaurant and surrounding areas with his personality and gentleness. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will live on as a "man I am honored to have known"!

So sorry to hear of Mr. Sossi's passing. What a legacy he has left us! My absolute favorite restaurant, and we are always treated like family when we are there. My heart goes out to Jan, her family and friends.
