

Hector E. Sossi, age 92, died peacefully on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Wm. Beaumont Hospital of Grosse Pointe. Hector was born on November 16, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio; the son of Eugenio and Theresa Sossi. When he was six years old, Hector and his parents returned to Masserano, Italy where he was raised and educated. When he turned 18, he came back to America to fight for his native country in WWII. He was in the US Army and saw action in the South Pacific. After the war, Hector returned to Detroit and began working with his uncle, Morris Sossi, at the Roma Caf in the Eastern Market area of Detroit. At work he met Stella Martinico who was the restaurant's bookkeeper. In 1946 they married at Holy Family Catholic Church in Detroit. Mr. Sossi eventually became the owner of the Roma Caf. His calm demeanor and joyful personality are common traits of successful owners in the hospitality industry. He was a kind and generous man who loved his family, his restaurant, his customers and the City of Detroit. Mr. and Mrs. Sossi were members of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, the Detroit Golf Club and the Detroit Athletic Club. He enjoyed golf and bowling. Hector is survived by his loving daughter, business partner and friend; Janet Sossi Belcoure and her husband, B.J.; his granddaughter Jessica Belcoure Marcetti and her husband Thomas Belcoure Marcetti. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Stella, in September of 2014. Visitation for Mr. Sossi will be from 2:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. There will not be a funeral service. Memorial contributions made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, P. O.
