James Kevin Brus

James Kevin Brus, Jr. passed away on July 19, 2012 at St. John Hospital in Detroit at the age of 59. He was born in Salzburg, Austria on May 30, 1953; son of James and Rita (nee Choiniere). Jim grew up on Detroit's east side and attended St. Matthew Elementary and Middle Schools and graduated from Bishop Gallagher High School in 1971. He completed Greer Technical School in 1972. Jim married his beloved Kathleen LaPratt at St. Matthew Catholic Church in 1974. They have lived in Harper Woods for the last 27 years. Jim was a hard working man. Jim's concrete work can be found all over the metro area as owner of Jim's Custom Concrete. "Jimbo's" wonderful sense of humor was partially inspired by such shows as the Three Stooges and Little Rascals. "Hyme", to his close friends, was unassuming and would keep to himself. So, when he spoke, you would definitely listen. As an outdoorsman, Jimbo loved spending time with family and friends in Mio, Michigan at the family cabin. He enjoyed fishing and hunting (although everyone knew that his love of animals and nature would never allow him to actually shoot a deer). Mr. Brus was diagnosed with COPD around three years ago. He could be described by his doctor's as a "model patient". He would follow their orders to perfection and his fighting nature had inspired him to go well above and beyond what was expected of him. Jim was not a big "tech" guy prior to his illness. He discovered hi definition television and became a Facebook addict. He left these quoted, inspirational words on his Facebook page: "Don't let your heart be troubled. If we don't get her today, we'll get her tomorrow". Jim leaves behind his loving wife Kathleen. He was very proud of his son Matthew and daughter Kimberly (Patrick) Lusch. He adored his six month old grandson Kylan Lusch. He will be missed dearly by his mother Rita. Jim was predeceased by his father James. He will be missed by his grand-dog Maggie. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 pm until 9:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. Mr. Brus will lie instate on Monday from 8:30 am until the time of the Mass of the Resurrection at 9:00 am at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 6021 Whittier, Detroit. Father Duane Novelly will officiate. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Twp. Memorial contributions may be made in James' name to the COPD Foundation, 2937 SW 27th Ave., Suite 302, Miami, FL 33133.
