James Mackey

James Ivan Mackey, age 90 of Warren, passed away with family by his side on December 16, 2018. He was born in Detroit on July 21, 1928, the son of Ivan and Marjorie (nee Fodor) Mackey. Jim was a Process Engineer at General Motors for 36 years, until his retirement at the age of 59. He was a dedicated Knights of Columbus member for many years, where he spent time with his friends. Jim enjoyed retirement and loved spending time outdoors. Highlights were Traverse City, watching the freighters in Algonac, golf, bowling, and traveling across the country. Relaxing by the water was one of his favorite things. His daughters remember their dad working in the yard, listening to Dick Purtan, Sun worshipping, and being proud of their accomplishments. Among many things, Jim will be remembered for his quiet, dry sense of humor, and firm handshake. Beloved husband of Geraldine for 30 years. Dear father of Sheila (Daniel) Hull, Susan Mackey, Maureen (Eric) Mackey, Sally Mackey, and Molly (Joe) Mercurio. Caring step-father of Robert (Kathy) Gaffke, Michael Gaffke, Christopher (Christine) Gaffke, and Mark (Wendy) Gaffke. Grandfather of 9, step-grandfather of 4, and great-grandfather of one. Brother of Eileen Boyle and uncle of Michael Boyle. Jims family will receive friends and family on Wednesday, December 19th from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 7:00PM at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr at Masonic (13-1/2 Mile) in Warren. Instate Thursday 9:30 AM until time of Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families, St. Dorothy Campus, 12253 Frazho Road in Warren. Fr. Robert Bauer will officiate. A private interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to the Knights of Columbus or the Capuchin's .
