James Levi Spencer

James Levi Spencer, age 94, died Thursday, August 15, 2024. James was preceded in death by Joanne Spencer, loving wife of 63 years. James was the loving father of Thomas (Mary Beth), Kathleen Decker (Douglas), and Susan Calka (Douglas); proud grandparent of Gregory (Caytlin), Holly (Eric), James (Aubryn), Ashlynn, and Alexander.

James was born in Imlay City Michigan, October 15, 1929, and remained a hometown boy even after he moved to the city. James served in the army right after high school and after returning, worked for Standard Oil company until he founded his own company. Spencer Oil Company is still thriving and supporting many families today.

James was a man of faith and always found the good in everyone. He was a faithful husband, father, grandfather and friend. The world has lost a shining star, but there’s a new one in heaven.

Visitation will be at A. H. Peter funeral home, Grosse Pointe Woods, August 22,2024. Visitation from 10 AM to 12 PM followed by a funeral service at noon. No plans for a post service gathering have been made at this time.
