

James H. Storz, age 86 died peacefully on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at St. John Hospital in Detroit. Jim was born on November 19, 1924 in Detroit, the son of Harold and Elvira Storz. He graduated St. Bernard High School in 1933 where he was a star basketball player. Mr. Storz served in the Medical Corp of the United States Army for two years. He was stationed in Washington at a German Prisoner Camp. After serving his country, Jim spent two years in college at Michigan State University. He held several retail sales jobs before starting work at General Foods. He retired in 1986 after working 38 years. At age 62 he started his volunteer work. He was active in delivering Meals-on-Wheels, M-Crest, tutoring children at St. Joan of Arc School in St. Clair Shores, serving on various committees at his church, notably the Usher's and Men's Clubs, and Parish Council. He was also an Eucharistic Minister and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Mr. Storz was a Santa Claus for over 50 years. He volunteered his "services" at St. Margaret and several service clubs including Optimists and Lions Clubs. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed golf and watching sports on television. Mr. Storz is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Dorothy; his son, Mark Storz; his daughter, Michelle Storz; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation for Mr. Storz will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. A combined parish rosary and Knights of Columbus rosary will begin at 7:00 p.m. His body will lie instate at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, 21201 Thirteen Mile Road in St. Clair Shores from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until mass begins at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Fr. Ronald DeHondt will officiate. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield. The family has suggested memorials contributions be made to the St. John Hospital Foundation for Cardiac Care.
