I highly valued my friendship with Jim and deeply appreciated all his wonderful characteristics: impeccable honesty; complete loyalty; fidelity to his solid, well grounded principles; compassion towards those less fortunate; his unfailing reliability and dependability; his passion for fairness and fair play; his passion for winning, but always ethically; and his devilish and good natured sense of humor.  I leaned much about business and life from Jim and will miss him greatly, as will so many others whose lives were brightened and made better through his association with them.  Jim achieved mythical status in the automotive business segments he dominated, achieved with tremendous savvy and aplomb and gentility, and gained the unabashed admiration with all whom he interacted. An American icon has left us - I’m going to miss Jim, and extend my condolences to Sharon and family members.

Dear Sharon, I had the occasion to meet your Jim but a few times. The last was when I came up with Holly to see you both. I spent a long time with him while you and Holly visited. It was clear to me how much he loved you and even more so how much you loved him. I recall how sweet and gentle he was when we went to the restaurant and sweetly he spoke to a little toddler at the next table.  Cherish each memory... know he is watching over you... until we all meet again. Lovingly Marleen

His love of dogs and sailing and you were always in our conversations during our morning walks. Thank you for all the loving care given him over his last years. With his animated personality, quick wit, and big heart…Uncle Jim was one of a kind and will be missed.   Lake St. Clair won’t be the same without Uncle Jim. I have many fond memories of summer visits over the decades. Days spent on the Suntannar that shaped the joy of boating I continue to this day. My first time behind the helm of a boat was with Uncle Jim. I remember him laughing as I struggled to keep a straight course, yet taking the time to make sure I understood the proper techniques. I am thankful I was able to share his final Whaler ride with Aunt Sharon…and one last phone call. Jim is always a fond memory in my aging head, having shared many times and stories during our HECON days. I loved to hear him talk about his huskies, boat and Michigan home with Sharon.  Extremely likable with a great, dry, sharp sense of humor it was always a good experience knowing and working with Jim.  Sharon, I'm so sorry for your loss. You can be sure that Jim is close by. To quote the ending from the poem "Death Is Nothing At All," by Canon, Henry Scott Holland, ... How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting..when we meet again." A nice thought for two nice people.

I will always cherish my memories of visiting the Joe with Uncle Jim to see the Red Wings take to the ice. It was quite the trip for a hockey obsessed nephew from Canada. Sending lots of love to you Aunt Sharon from all of us here in Vancouver. Ben, Emily, Ava and Henrik.

Dear Sharon, With regret Jackie let me know about Jim's passing and I send you my heartfelt condolences. Since Jackie and I are both the middle of three sisters, we would often keep each other updated about our beloved sisters. It was always good to see you at family functions here in Ontario when the occasions would arrive....and since hearing so much about you and Jim over the years, it seemed that we knew each other well. It was obvious that you were a most dedicated wife and Jim couldn't have had better care in the last few years. Sharon, I hope that all the good memories will be a comfort to you.

We will miss Jim. He is one of our long time neighbors and we will always remember his love of dogs and love of boats. He has gone to a better place and I am sure is running in the fields with all his animals. Sharon, we will be there for you. Just let us know when you need anyone to talk to or need anything. I am greatly saddened by this news. Jim would always stop by to see Doc (my dog) and I and bring treats. We always looked forward the visits from Jim and Sharon. Wonderful people. My condolences.

I first met Jim when I started at a new company in 1981. I think I was there for two days before we had a major phone argument! I believe we immediately respected each other, and became good friends as a result. We spent a lot of time together, traveling often to visit key customers. I will always remember Jim's indomitable personality.  We exchanged insulting birthday greetings every year, each working to outdo the other. I once wrote a fake newspaper article suggesting that Jim should be added to the dinosaur exhibit at the Smithsonian, and Sharon inserted it into his morning paper. He got a big laugh out of that one!  Jim was an avid boater, and was a big help when I got my first little boat.  I will always remember his love of animals, especially his cherished Huggy Bear.  Rest in peace, my friend... you have earned it.  My deepest condolences to Sharon, who was always there for him and took care of Jim in his waning years. His life on this earth was short lived but while he was here he left his mark.While my wife and I did not know him as long as others have but we did enjoy his friendship and his company as did so many others.We offer our thoughts and prayers for his salvation and for his wife of so many years.We shall miss him.
