
James Telegadas, a resident of Grosse Pointe Woods, passed away at his home in the loving care of his family on Saturday, June 27, 2020 at the age of 89. James was born in Thessalia, Greece on August 6, 1930 to George and Agoritsa (neeTsitsirigos).
James served in the Greek Armed Forces as a young man. After serving in Greece he decided to move to the United States in 1956. Upon arriving he immediately took classes that would help him learn and improve speaking English, and also to learn more about the freedoms he now had as a true American citizen. James was a hard and dedicated worker. James worked as a waiter for the classiest restaurants in the city of Detroit. He worked at The Book Cadillac until he was 63, and then The Pontchatrain, until he decided to retire at 83. James also worked many years as a manager at Gus Coney Island. He really enjoyed working and taking care of people. He was fortunate to meet many athletes and celebrities. He was always bringing home autographs and being a huge sports fan he enjoyed meeting the athletes. He was a strong supporter of all Detroit sports teams. His favorites were The Detroit Tigers and The Detroit Lions, but he supported them all. James met the love of his life Sophia Tekos in Windsor, Canada. The moment he saw her he was in love. After that day James believed in love at first sight. James courted Sophia for 3 months before he proposed to her. They married January 22, 1962 in Detroit and have been married 58 years. He was a loving man and will be missed.
Beloved husband of Sophia joined in love 58 years. Loving father of Costa (Cathy) and Rita. Loved grandfather of Jacob (Michelle) Blain and Joshua Blain. Dear brother of Penelope Flengas, Lambros (Katina), Fr. Elias (Maria), Maria (Tom) Souliotis, and Pavlos. James also leaves many other loving family members and friends.
James now joins his family in heaven including his parents, George and Agoritsa; Siblings, Apostolos I, Apostolos II, Antigone Margaris, and Al.
James family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of funeral service 11AM at Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, 21800 Marter Rd., St. Clair Shores, MI 48080. Interment Cadillac Memorial Gardens East, Clinton Township, MI
