Joanne O. Taubitz

Joanne Taubitz, age 88, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Beloved wife of Frank A. Taubitz for 63 years. Loving mother of Joe (Sherry), Theresa (Doug) Drauch, Jim (Monica) and Frank (Terry). Proud grandmother of Andrea (Brian) Schreier, Matt (Holly) Drauch, Lauren (Tony) Ehret, Melissa (Jake) Wittler, Lucas (Aimee) Taubitz, Stephanie (Joe) Simony, Hannah Taubitz, Rachelle Taubitz, Leah Taubitz and Emily Taubitz. Very proud great grandmother of Elise, Helena and Anabella Drauch. Joanne dedicated her life to serving others. For over 25 years, she was an area leader for Recovery Inc., a self-help group focused on serving those with anxiety and nervous issues. Blessed Father Solanus held a special place in her heart and Joanne made over 5,000 Solanus relic badges which were distributed to people who sought his intercession with our Lord Jesus Christ. She also volunteered at her church, making vestments for priests, served as a tutor as part of Reading For Literacy and helped support the American Foundation for the Blind. While she was a dedicated student of the piano, she also served as teacher to many of her children and grandchildren. She loved to play and even more so, loved teaching family members to play as well. Joanne was a very accomplished seamstress. In addition to having her own alteration business, she made everything from wedding, bridesmaid and prom dresses to leisure suits and Halloween costumes and everything in between. Joanne was a talented artist, singer and stock market analyst. And according to her husband Frank, her cooking skills were James Beard Award quality - nothing could come close to her home cooked meals. Perhaps her greatest service was the time she put into her family. From celebrating Christmas and birthdays to praying novenas for those in need, Joanne was always there to help others. Visitation Sunday 2:30 pm - 9:00 pm with rosary at 7:00 pm at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan 48236. Funeral Monday, instate 9:30 am until time of mass 10:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack, St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48080. Fr. John Bettin will be officiating. A lunch will be served directly after the funeral mass at the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church located at 21800 Marter Road in St. Clair Shores. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township, Michigan. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to the Fr. Solanus Guild, 1780 Mt. Elliot Street, Detroit, Michigan 48207.
