John J. Hill

John J. Hill, age 93 of Grosse Pointe Shores, died in Detroit on Monday, April 8, 2013. He was born in Charleston, Tennessee on Tuesday, March 16, 1920; the son of John and Katherine Hill. A dedicated employee of General Motors for many years, John retired in 1985 as a Design Engineer. John was also a long time member of Grosse Pointe Baptist Church as well as the Masonic Society. John loved music; especially Big Band, Jazz and Swing. In his early years, he played the trumpet in a jazz band. John also enjoyed building model trains, boating with friends and cooking southern barbeque. John will be remembered as the consummate southern gentleman, a very sweet man. John adored his family and was a devoted caregiver to his wife, Maxine, before her passing on Wednesday, May 2, 2007. Beloved husband of the late Maxine for 62 years. They were married on Sunday, June 24, 1945. Loving father of Gary Hill and Catherine (Tony) Allison. Proud grandfather of Lauren (Vaios) Theodorakos, Shannon Hill, Jacquelyn Hill, Christina Allison and Andrew Allison. Great grandfather of Vaios III, Thomas Elias and Thomasina Theodorakos. Faithful owner of Copper, his Red Boned Coon Hound. A memorial visitation will be held Friday, April 12, 2013 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods.
