John Paul Ross

John Paul Ross passed away in his home on Monday, September 10th, after a long, courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was born on December 23, 1954 to Sally Ann (nee Curry) and the late Paul Ross. John began his academic studies on a football scholarship to Hillsdale College before pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice from Central Michigan University. He went on to attend the Macomb Police and Fire Academy. His son, Jonathan, followed in his father's footsteps by also studying at the Academy. John began a truly remarkable career at the Oakland County Sheriffs Department where he worked from 1977 to 1978. He then joined the Grosse Pointe Woods Public Safety Department, where he held the titles of corporal, sergeant, sergeant detective, and lieutenant. John earned his retirement from the department in 2014. In 2016, he served as security personnel for Ahee Jewelers. When not protecting the community, John explored Siesta Key as a certified scuba diver and fiercely supported the Detroit Tigers and the University of Michigan football team. He enjoyed golfing and biking up north. His greatest love was his family, particularly his granddaughters Lana and Hayley. "Pa," as they called him, would take his granddaughters to Belle Isle and the park, and always made sure that they were fed Ruffles and donuts. Beloved husband of Cindy (nee Goodwin). Loving father of Jonathan (Sarah Ulmer) and Lindsey (Justin) Davis. Dearest grandfather of Lana and Hayley. Dear brother of Joellyn (Richard) Porritt, Mark (Julie), Michael (Angie), and Matthew (Jennifer). Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-8 PM with a rosary at 7 PM at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue, Grosse Pointe Woods, 48236. In state on Friday 11:30 AM until funeral Mass at 12:00 Noon at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lake Shore Rd, Grosse Pointe Farms, 48236. Entombment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township.
