

Joseph Bender Jr., age 92, a resident of Warren for 46 years died Tuesday, April 10th at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, Clinton Township after a long illness. Joseph was born in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania June 2nd, 1919 the son of Joseph Sr. and Agnes Bender. He was a Veteran of the U.S.Navy and served on board as a yeoman on the USS Billfish submarine during WWII. After Joseph returned home his sister Helen introduced him to her girlfriend Doris and she became the love of his life. Joe and Doris got married at St. Peters Lutheran Church. August 3rd, 1946 and enjoyed 61 years of marriage until her death January 18th, 2007. Joseph was employed in sales and operations with Welding Engineering Products Corporation until he retired at age 70; eventually he returned to work part time and continued working until he reached 88 years of age. He was a devoted Christian man and truly an inspiration to his family. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Sports Teams especially the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions. Joseph was a member of A.T.S. Saxons Club (American Transylvanian Saxons) and served on the executive board for many years. He was also a member of the US Submarine Veterans of WW II. He loved his great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He is survived by his daughter Donna Muhme and son Dale(Karen)Bender, grandchildren Michele(Greg)Crachiolo, Ryan(Ashleigh)Muhme and David Bender, great-grandchildren Stephanie, Matthew and Baby Crachiolo also Jaedyn, Jeremiah and Jasiah Muhme, sisters Helen(Late Robert)Schuneman, Lillian(Late Willis)Beebe and Shirley(James)Houvener. Visitation at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr at Masonic (13 Mile Rd., Warren. Thursday 2pm until 9pm. Funeral Service Friday at Warren Woods Church of the Nazarene 14300 E. Thirteen Mile Rd. Warren, MI. Instate 10am until time of Service 11am. God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be, so He put His arms around you and whispered "Come to Me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A Golden Heart stopped beating, hard-working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.
