Joseph M Gonzales

Joseph M. Gonzales passed away on April 7, 2020 at the age of 92. He was born in Detroit on October 5, 1927; son of Bernadino and Margaret (nee Yanez) Gonzales. He retired as an Assistant Branch Manager from Detroit Edison after 40 years of service.

Joseph is predeceased by his wife Genevieve. He was proud of his son Matthew (Virginia) and daughter Tish (Ed) Bourke. He loved his grandchildren Paul, Julie, Sean, and Marie Bourke; James and Catherine Gonzales. He was delighted by his great-grandchildren Milena, Adrian, and Mateo. Joseph was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic School in Detroit Michigan and served in the United States Army during the Korean War in the 2nd Armored Division – the famous Hell on Wheels. He was an avid fan of Notre Dame football and was rarely seen without his ND football cap.

Due to the Executive Order of the Governor of the State of Michigan and an abundance of caution by the Archdiocese of Detroit, there will be no visitation or funeral mass. Interment will be at Mt. Elliott Cemetery in Detroit. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Charlevoix Michigan - or as he referred to it “God’s Paradise”.
