
Joseph Schultes, 99, formerly of Grosse Pointe Farms and Detroit, died peacefully Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, surrounded by his family. He immigrated from Lichtenfels, Germany to the United States in 1935. An organ building by trade, he built and repaired many pipe organs for area churches. He was an accomplished tool and die maker, and was an owner of Schultes Level Company, a maker of precision levels. Following World War II, Mr. Schultes spearheaded the local Detroit effort to supply relief packages to Europe. He was a lifetime member of the Catholic Kolping Society. A devout Catholic, he was deeply religious and a member of numerous rosary and church organizations. His family said he loved life and will be deeply missed. Mr. Schultes is survived by his children, Joseph (Karen), Michael (Alice), Marilynn Weaver (Ronnie), David (Donna), Thomas (Susan) and John (Karen); 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Jeannette (nee Wolf). Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack, Grosse Pointe Woods, with a rosary recitation at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at Our Lady Star of the Sea, 467 Fairford, Grosse Pointe Woods. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
