

Joyce Alef, 84, died Jan. 17, 2015. She was born May 4, 1930, in Detroit, to Marvin Alef and Troth Oglesby, and graduated from St. Paul High School. She earned a bachelor's degree from Notre Dame College of Women. Ms. Alef was a talented seamstress who taught sewing classes. She enjoyed volunteering and serving her community. She was active at St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church and was a past president for the Grosse Pointe Theater, as well as made costumes for its productions. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends and loved boating, gardening and listening to the Grosse Pointe Symphony. She was a huge fan of the University of Notre Dame. Ms. Alef is survived by her loving children, Paul Carey Bauhof, Mark Bauhof (Joyce), Anne Fancovic (Gerard) and Lisa B. Pollard, and grandchildren, Eric, Peter "Max," Michael, Daniel, Jonathan and Christopher. Visitation Wednesday 3-8 p.m. at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at St. Paul On the Lake Catholic Church, 157 Lakeshore, Grosse Pointe Farms. Visitation begins at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
