

Joyce Cook Longtime Grosse Pointe resident Joyce Cook, 87, died August 25, 2015. She was born Jan. 27, 1928, in Detroit and raised in its Indian Village neighborhood. She attended University Liggett School, Cass Tech High School and Wayne State university. She had a varied career working as the manager of the eastside unit of the Republican party headquarters and as a sales representative and advisor at the Detroit Legal News. She also worked as real estate agent which was when she met Jon Cook, whom she married in 1970. Mrs. Cook enjoyed gardening, reading and sewing. She was a member of the Women's City Club; a 50-year member of the Grosse Pointe Woman's Club, where she served in many capacities including president for three years; and a 30-year member of the Grosse Pointe Woods beautification advisory committee to which she was appointed by the city's mayor. Mrs. Cook is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jon; children, Carol Jones and Steven Jones (Jane) and grandchildren, Kaitlin, Sarah and Steven Jr. (Marlena). She also is survived by her brother, David MacLean and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at First English Evangelical Lutheran Church, 800 Vernier, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236.
