Judith "Judy" Ufford

Judith E. "Judy" Ufford, a longtime resident of Detroit, passed away Friday, April 26, 2019 in Detroit at age of 73. Judy was born on Saturday, December 1, 1945 to John and Verna Schmeltz. Judy was a wonderful homemaker. She adored her children and especially all of her grandchildren. Judy was very active in their lives. She was their number 1 fan when it came to her grandchildren's schooling, sporting events, and extra curricular activities. She would take them to practices and was surely present at all games and special events. She would cook to order for each child what they individually wanted. Her specialty was French toast. Judy was infamous for her nicknames. Everyone had a nick name and were rarely called by their actual name. Some nicknames are quite colorful, and will certainly never be forgotten by her family. Judy was a dedicated and loving member of Peace Lutheran Church in Detroit. She will be missed by many. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence. Loving mother of Jill Pettway and late husband Lonnie, June Ehmann, Janeen Peyton, Edward Ufford, Kimberly Beavers, Brenda Ufford, and Theresa (Andrew) Coppa. Dear grandmother of Lonnie R. (Imaree), Julian (Julisa), and Devon Pettway; Carlos Williams, Jr., And Angel Williams; Cameron Peyton and Taylor (Aaron) Brinkmann; Gabriel (Renee), Adrian, Ryan (Kristian), Jordan (Bridgette) Sellers, and David Beavers; Michael Ufford, Brandi (Andrew) Piderman; CJ and Zachary Coppa. Judy was also a very special great-grandmother as well. Sister of Robert (Linda) Schmeltz. Aunt of Jason (Megan) Schmeltz and Jessica Schmeltz. Judy's family will gather and receive friends on Thursday, May 2, 2019 from 2-8 PM at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236.
