Marc was born on July 22, 1947, in Bucyrus, Ohio, to Gail Richard Goodwin and Marilyn Jane Hyder Murray. After Marc graduated from Whitmer High School (Toledo, OH) in 1965. He attended college at the University of Toledo. He went on to work in the service industry with HHA Services, where he eventually retired in 2015 as the Vice President of Human Resources.
In 1972, Marc wed Karol Knoth and went on to have two children, Kendra Fleming and Todd Goodwin. Marc and Karol lived in Toledo, Ohio, until 1987, when they moved to Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. Marc and Karol were regular Royal Caribbean “cruisers” and had sailed all over the world. They spent the last several years wintering in St. Augustine, Florida, where Marc spent the days reading crime fiction in the Florida sun.
While he was in good health, he filled his retirement with traveling, golfing, spending time with his family, and he stayed in very close contact with his fellow Whitmer class of 1965 schoolmates. These classmates affectionately referred to Marc as “Crazy” as he always had a crazy remark or witty comment. He enjoyed tending to his lawn, taking his grandchildren fishing, and doing volunteer work at the Hope Center in Macomb County. Marc attended The Woods Church in Warren, Michigan, with his wife and family.
Marc was a fan of The Ohio State University and secretly rooted for the Buckeyes while attending University of Michigan football games with his wife. He was fortunate to golf some of the most prestigious golf courses in the country… Pebble Beach, Innsbruck, TPC Dearborn, TPC Riverbend, and Firestone Country Club, to name a few. Marc even shot a hole-in-one with his high school buddies at Tree Tops in Gaylord, Michigan.
Marc was predeceased by both of his parents and a baby brother, Robert Preston (Robbie), who died shortly after birth. He is survived by his wife Karol, daughter Kendra (Jeff) Fleming, son Todd (Angel) Goodwin and eight grandchildren, Anne, Ethan, Matthew, Andrew, James, Wyatt, Liam, and Reagan; and a step-sister Holly Braithwaite of Maumee, Ohio.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at The Woods Church, 14300 E Thirteen Mile Rd. Warren, MI 48088, on March 18th, 2024. Visitation begins at 10:30 am, followed immediately by a memorial service at 11 am. Donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Compassion International; both charities were close to Marc’s heart.
Marc was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He will be forever missed. The family does not know if there are golf courses in heaven, but if someone can convince God, it would be Papa Marc.
