Mary Ellen Marquis was born in Adrian, Michigan on November 14, 1942 to Vernon and Margaret (Black) McCormick. She was the youngest of 4 daughters. She grew up in Adrian, enjoying many trips to the library with her father, which nurtured her lifelong love of reading. After graduating from Adrian High School Mary attended Adrian College for a few semesters but did not earn her degree. She worked for the phone company as an operator for several years. She married Philip Marquis on January 18, 1964 and welcomed her first child Douglas in November of that year. Mary then quit her job to stay home and raise her children.
The family moved to Richmond, Michigan in 1972 for 1 year and then settled in Marysville, Michigan for the next 13 years. Mary earned her Nursing degree from St. Clair County Community College in 1980. She worked at Mercy Hospital in Port Huron until 1986 when the family moved to White Lake, Michigan. She continued her nursing career at St Joseph Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan until 2005 when she retired. Mary moved to Roseville and later St. Clair Shores to be near her daughter Jacquie. She enjoyed living at American House Senior Living Committees. She met some wonderful friends and especially enjoyed her Thursday afternoon Trivia group competitions. Her other interests were reading (She loved mysteries and historical fiction-especially the Outlander series), watching HGTV and catching up on her loved ones on Facebook. She would have loved to travel more after she retired but some health issues made it too difficult. She did enjoy a spectacular trip to London, Scotland, and Paris with her 3 sisters in 1989.
